The Khoisan are an ancient people – they live in the arid desert regions of Southern Africa. They are gentle people who have a unique relationship with nature and they live only to take as much as they need and no more – they often approach a lion’s kill and very slowly and gently take a small part of it for themselves, to leave the lions to their meal afterwards. There is a tacit tolerance between them and predators. After hunting for food, they say a prayer over the dead animal to thank the animal for its’ sacrifice before eating it. I tried to portray this special relationship in this drawing.
