The Black-backed Jackal is a medium-sized canine native to Eastern and Southern Africa. It is a fox-like animal, monogamous, with some young remaining with the family to help raise new generations of pups. Their kidneys are well adapted to water deprivation. They eat a range of small mammals, to snakes, carrion and even fruits and berries.
