The Aardwolf (directly translated -earth wolf), is an insectivorous species of hyena. It is largely nocturnal, resting in burrows or caves during the day and coming out at night to forage for food. It can lap up up to 250 000 termites and larvae in a single night using its long sticky tongue, which is adapted to withstand the strong bites of termites. It lives in the Eastern and Southern regions of Southern Africa.
